Juventus are reportedly interested in offering Nemanja Matic a contract if Manchester United do not choose to renew his current deal.
Matic’s contract is up at the end of the season although the Premier League club do have the option of extending it for another year.
But if United do not choose to keep the Serbia international, The Sun claim Juventus will be at the front of the queue to offer him a deal for the 2020-21 season.
The Italian giants had been in for Matic’s team-mate Paul Pogba after a summer in which he appeared to agitate for a move but the World Cup-winner ended up staying at United and Juve have been forced to make other plans.
Matic is an ideal candidate, having been apparently frozen out of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team with just one substitute appearance this season – until yesterday when he was drafted into the starting line-up amid a United injury crisis.
But he did little to convince Solskjaer that he should be a more regular participant in first-team activities and was replaced by Fred after just an hour.
Matic was said to have been frustrated by United’s failure to allow him to move on over the summer and admitted over the international break that he did not agree with Solskjaer’s decision to leave him out repeatedly.
‘In the first two or three games he [Solskjaer] determined the team without me,’ Matic told Sky Sports.
‘I work as hard as I can, we respect the decision, it is mine to show him that he was wrong and to bring me back to where I belong.
